Arborbrook 32 – Berean 6
The Falcons evened their record at 5-5 with an easy victory over Berean Academy. There was a definate mismatch on the floor as the Falcons were much larger, stronger, faster, and more talented than a undersized Berean team. The outcome was never in doubt as the starting five played together as a unit for only one quarter. We have a tendacy to play down to the level of the team we play against but that did not happen this time. The starting five looked sharp and played with the intensity lacking in previous games. This was a perfect game for Conor, Ethan, and Jonathan to reveive extensive playing time and compete against players their own size. They were able to play together as a unit for more than half the game as the starters rotated in and out to fill the other two positions. Conor played the entire fourth quarter at point guard while Ethan added 3 points on a basket and a free throw while Jonathan made a nifty assist and pulled down a couple of rebounds. Berean had a difficult time putting the ball in the hoop scoring only 2 points in the second half and never more than 2 points in a quarter. Ryan Brown lead the scoring with 12 points and 5 rebounds. Kyle Boutross added 7 points with 8 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist. Matthew Pedemonte scored 4 points with 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist. Caleb Robinson played less than a quarter but still scored 4 points with 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Joel VanDusen scored 2 points with 7 rebounds, 1 steal, and 3 assists. Ethan Robinson scored 3 points with 1 rebound and 1 steal. Jonathan Spitler pulled down 2 rebounds with an assist while Conor Murdock came up with 2 steals.
Special Note: The Arborbrook 5th /6th grade girls team defeated a team from Legacy Sports 16-15 in an extremely exciting game. The Lady Falcons erased an 8-3 half time deficit and pulled to within 1 point going into the fourth quarter. They quickly fell behind by three but came back strong and took a 14-13 lead with only a couple of minutes left in the game. Legacy went back on top with less than two minutes to go before the Falcons took the lead for good on a shot from underneath the basket. The last minute was hectic and exciting as the Falcons were able to hang on and secure the victory. This game proves that basketball can be exciting at any level. I was nervous and I don’t know any of the girls. Congratulations 5th/6th grade Lady Falcons.
