Falcon White 28 – Falcon Green 27

The two Arborbrook teams squared off against each other in the first of two meetings and played one of the best and most exciting games in the last two years.  Neither team could hold a lead as the offense for both teams completely took over the game especially in the second half.  Daniel Zangmeister got things started for the Falcon White team on their second possession.  Daniel took a short pass from Ben Marsico and cut down the right sideline for the game’s first touchdown.   Daniel is extremely fast and a very dangereous runner and he proved it once again to give the Falcon White team a 6-0 lead.  Jazz Alexander cut across the middle of the field and caught another pass from Ben for the 2 point conversion and the White Team was up 8-0.  The Falcon Green Team came back on the next series and drove the ball down field and scored when Mitch Moore threw a pass to Alex Carpenter in the cornor of the end zone.  The extra point failed but the Green Team was on the board and trailed 8-6.  Time was running out in the first half when the Green Team got the ball back still trailing by two with just enough time for one more play.  Mitch Moore threw a long pass that was caught by Ryan Brown who had gotten behind the defense and stepped into the end zone for the Green Team’s second touchdown of the game.  The extra point was good when Mitch found Ryan once again in the cornor of the end zone and the half ended with the Green Team on top 13-8.

The White Team opened the second half by driving down the field with Trey Barnes turning the cornor and beating the defenders down the sideline for the White Team’s second touchdown.  This time the extra point failed but the score was 14-13 And the Falcon White team was back on top.  Not for long.  Mitch Moore took a pass from Caleb Robinson and wound his way through the defense and scored another six points for the Green Team.  Mitch found Hank Booth in the end zone and the GreenTeam now had the lead at 20-14.  Daniel Zangmeister changed the score almost immediately as he took a hand off from Ben Marsico and turned the cornor before winding and spinning his way back to the middle of the field and then out ran the defenders all the way to the end zone.  With the score tied 20-20 the White Team went for two and Ben Found Jazz Alexander running a crossing pattern for his second two point conversion and a 22-20 White team lead.  There was now less than six minutes left in the game when the Green Team started to drive the ball down field with an effective running game.  Paul Cunningham scored on a run around the right end and then gathered in a pass from Mitch for the extra point and the Green Team had a 27-22 lead.  With just over two minutes left in the game, the White Team came back one last time driving down the field with Alex Forster scoring the winning touchdown on a 10 yard run after taking a handoff from Ben.  The extra point failed but the White Team had a 28-27 lead with less than 2 minutes left.  Two minutes is a long time in the NFL but with a running clock you need a big play in to score.  The game would end with the White Falcons on top by one point.

There were no losers in this game as both teams played exceptionally well.  This was a game between friends and classmates and it showed on the field.  No one will remember the final score next week, but every player on the field will remember this game for years to come.  This game exemplified the reason we play sports and the value of friendship.  Both teams play three game next weekend with a rematch scheduled for Sunday at 4:00.  It can’t get any better than this.

Falcons (White) Keep Proper Perspective During Shutout Victory

Falcons 44 – Harris YMCA #One 0

Good day Arborbrook Christian Academy and Legacy Sports fans. This past Saturday your Arborbrook Falcons (White Team) took on the Siskey YMCA #1 team, in their Second game of the season. Again, it was beautiful day for football, and once again the Falcons did not disappoint the good number of family and friends who attended. After having had two weeks off due to the weather and a bye week, the Falcons picked up right where they left off, defeating the YMCA with a final score of Falcons 44, YMCA 0.

Leading the way on offense was Daniel Zangmeister who made a brilliant run from scrimmage, scoring our first touchdown of the day. #9 Center, Jaz Alexander followed up with a great catch for the two point conversion with a pass from #7 QB Ben Marsico. Once again Ben showed poise against the defenses relentless rush. Receiver #3 Alex Forster, had an outstanding game with two back to back touchdowns, running the length of the field on one. Safety, Trey Barnes joined in on defense intercepting a YMCA pass which set up the next Falcons score with a pass from QB Ben Marsico to Daniel Zangmeister. Ben then followed up with a QB rushing 2 point conversion. Additionally, Receiver #8 Matthew Pedemonte, made some great catches helping to set up several scoring opportunities and first downs. Matthew also turned in a great game on defense at safety.

The second half started off on a great note as #10 Trey Barnes now in at Quarter Back scored back to back TD’s. Scoring on his first drive with a QB run after a relentless YMCA blitz, followed by a razzle dazzle play and pass from the receiver. #2 Half Back, Chad Alexander while having a great day on the ground rushing, followed up with a great catch in the End-Zone for the two point conversion and the final score of the game.

As evident in the final score, the Falcons defense showed up in a big way, with each of the team members contributing to stops and take-aways. However, the stand out on defense was Corner Back , Jonathan Zangmeister who was relentless at stopping the run and short passes. Jonathan who also contributed at the Center and half Back positions had a brilliant game.

Head coach John Alexander and assistant coach Denny Forster were more than pleased with their teams performance and character, as the players were not only encouraging each other but they encouraged the YMCA team players on their individual performances as well. Coaches Hat’s once again, go off to the entire team, with a special mention of Daniel Zangmeister for his true Christ like Spirit and comments near the end of the game.

GO FALCONS! GO JESUS!

Falcons Green Team Drops Heartbreaker

Harris Y # Two 20 – Falcons Green 18

The Falcons came up on the short end of a 20-18 score yesterday afternoon playing the #Two Team from Harris Y on their home field.  The Falcons scored on the first play of the game when Caleb Robinson threw a quick pass to Mitch Moore who turned the cornor on the right side of the field and raced down the sideline scoring the first touchdown of the game before anyone had even settled in their seats.  The extra point was missed but the Falocns had a quick 6-0 lead.  The Falcon defense held the Harris Y and the offense started once again from their own 5 yard line.  Three plays later the Falcons had moved to within 15 yards of midfield which is the first down marker in flag football.  The Falcons lined up in an unbalanced formation to the right of center, the same formation that Mitch scored on earlier.  This time Caleb faked the pass to Mitch, avoided the pass rusher, and ran down the left sideline for the Falcons second touchdown of the first half.  We missed the extra point for the second time but held a 12-0 lead and things were looking good.  The Falcon defense held the Harris Y once again but this time the offense turned the ball over on downs and the defense was back on the field.  One of the players on the Harris Y made a juggling catch of a long pass and the Harris Y was in position to score for the first time.  As time was winding down, thier quarterback scampered around the right side and scored making it a 12-6 game.  The offense had time for only 2 plays but moved the ball downfield to the Harris Y 15 yard line before time expired.

The Harris Y had the first possession in the second half but the Falcon defense came up with a big interception.  The offense was unable to score and gave the ball back to the Harris Y.  Once again the defense held and the offense took over.  The Harris Y made a huge interception and ran the ball back to the Falcons 3 yard line before scoring the tying touchdown on the next play.  This time their extra point was successful and the Falcons trailed 13-12.  With the offense on the field, Ryan Brown ran the same play Caleb Robinson had run in the first half.  Ryan faked a pass to the wide receiver , avoided the pass rusher, and ran down the sideline for the Falcons 3rd touchdown of the game.  Once again the extra point was missed but the Falcons had a 18-13 lead with 5 minutes left in the game.  The Harris Y scored on the very next play of the game when we just missed their quarterback’s flag at his own goal line, not once but twice and he ran through the rest of the defense for the winning score.  It was a hard loss on the scoreboard but the improvement the Falcons showed on both sides of the ball was evident from the opening whistle.  Their were some questionable calls which did not go our way and played in the outcome of the game but the Falcon players never complained and moved forward each time.  They played like champions and I was very proud of them.  We have a bye next week with practice on Wednesday.
