First Assembly 33 – Arborbrook 18
This game was much closer than the final score as the Lady Falcons stayed within striking distance until the last two minutes. This was my first opportunity to watch the girls team in action and I came away thinking this is a highly competitive team with a great amount of energy. The girls hustle up and down the floor on every possession, rebound extremely well, and play aggressive defense.
Olivia Edge hit the first basket for the Falcons tying the game at 2. Mariah Hughes added two more baskets and it looked like the Falcons would end the first quarter trailing by 4. D. Thomas of First Assembly threw up a long 3 point bank shot that went in at the buzzer and the Falcons trailed by 7.
The Falcons stayed within 8 or 9 points of the lead throughout the remainder of the game until the final two minutes when an 8 point flurry by First Assembly put the game out of reach. Siara Heidorn and Mariah Hughes run a perfect give and go that gave headaches to the defense the entire game. Mariah finished the game with 16 points but scored half her points the hard way. After missing 3 of her first 4 free throws she then hit 7 in a row and ended the game with 8 of 12 from the charity stripe. For anyone that missed the game, this is a fun team to watch. They will continue to get better and they have passion.
