Boys Basketball Practice – Wed, Dec 5
Most of the team was practicing for the Christmas Program, so we had only 5 players at practice today. We concentrated on dribbling, shooting, and ball handling.
Practice began with stretching and then 2 sets of the Blue Devil Drill. A short shot shooting drill was followed by 30 free throws. We gave the players a chance to establish a new personal best in the Tar Heel Drill. Alan Fox and Nate Johnson were both successful and now have new personal bests. We did not hold a team huddle since most of the team was missing.
The players have consistantly requested approval to shoot 3 point shots. The coaches believe this is not only a difficult shot but also very low percentage. We held a 3 point shooting contest where each player was required to shoot thirty 3 pointers from different areas on the court. Most of the players made 3 shots or less, Caleb Robinson lead the way with 7 which is only 23%. This was a designed exercise to show how difficult this shot really is.
We moved on to the 2 ball dribble (dribbling a ball with each hand) and the between the legs dribble. The players love Knock Out and Coach Scott always participates. The highlight of practice is when one of the players can beat Coach Scott. 2 on 2 competition came after Knock Out and practice ended whith a defensive slide Falcon.
